The CAP Prize is the international Prize for Contemporary African Photography awarded annually since 2012 to five photographers whose works were created on the African continent, or which engage with the African diaspora.
Counterchecking Everyday Reality
The pilot project Virtual Reality Check made it possible to experience the Nigerian metropolis of Lagos virtually on a real walk through the Swiss art capital Basel. Virtual reality glasses connect central urban locations in Basel and Lagos. With a smartphone, headphones and the Vimeo app equipped, VR card board headsets were provided to the eager visitor if the IAF Basel – Festival for Contemporary Art in September 2018.
Once installed the Vimeo App, one may still open this lInk on the mobile device to experience 12 key spots throughout the city of Lagos.
This pilot project was a joint venture between the CAP Association and the imisi 3D lab.

Perspective Matters – Mastering the Art of Seeing
As with almost everywhere across the creative industries, the current pandemic has affected our work. However it has also had a clarifying effect, exposing challenges that our students face which we had not previously been as aware of, and offering some unexpected solutions.
Using this knowledge we propose to develop a virtual workshop environment for photography education which can overcome some of the issues relating to equipment access and personal safety, by allowing students to study basic photography classes without leaving their houses. Because it will be largely housed in their smartphones, the one tool that our students all own, this virtual classroom eliminates many of the obstacles our students are faced with.
